strangeness shows itself
in an isolated room
late at night
with one lamp on
and four cats sleeping
the sound of silence
sweet for some work
until tired
the writer
turns off the light
goes into the bathroom
takes a leak
walks into the bedroom
takes his boots off
and crawls into the bed
that gives way
for the reward of sleep
he never asked to be a stranger
in a strange land
or stranger in a stranger land
but he's been through it all
for so long now
where fear is just a phase you have to wait out
for sanity's sake
and four innocent lives
